Carbon Dot Powder
Fingerprints may be hard to analyse due to high toxicity or low visibility which is where carbon dot powder comes into the picture. By making fingerprints glow red, orange and yellow under UV light this technology truly takes fingerprint analysis to a whole new level.
Nanotechnology
Even though nanotechnology deals with matter at an atomic scale it is soon finding its way into forensic chemistry. Nanotechnology has made crime investigation a shorter, more accurate, and more sensitive process by analysing substances ranging from gunshot residue to illegal drugs by analysing how these substances are structured and how they’ve been affected by heat or radiation.
Foldscope
This complex-looking piece of equipment is just a simple paper microscope which has recently been proven to be an indispensable tool in the field of forensic chemistry. It is used to make on-the-spot determinations of different samples like blood, hair, etc. found on a crime scene. Not only is it cheap and portable, but it also significantly reduces the workload of forensic laboratories making it critical in forensic chemistry.
PLOT Cryo Device
Several times, clandestine graves or chemicals in fire debris in forensic investigations cannot be detected by humans hence to solve this issue the PLOT cryo device was made. PLOT Cryo stands for “porous layer open tubular cryogenic absorption” and is used to detect very low concentrations of airborne particles. It works by sucking in air and forcing it through super-thin tubes, or capillaries, that are coated with a material that traps airborne chemicals.
